Therefore, there are different types of breast implants to match your individual characteristics and expectations. There are different brands, shapes, profiles and textures. THE DIFFERENCES
Breast Implant Size
Size is one of the main concerns for breast augmentation patients but there is no “fits-all” option. Implant sizes are based on “CC´s” – Cubic Centimeters. There are breast implants as small as 100 CC´s and as big as 800 CC´s but the most common sizes range between 300 and 400 CC´s. Generally speaking, the following size ranges can be considered:
- 200 CC OR BELOW: SMALL SIZE
- 250 CC TO 350 CC: MEDIUM SIZE
- FROM 400 CC: BIG SIZE
In order to choose the perfect size for you, you will need to share with Dr. Zia what look you would like to achieve. Measurements like your height, weight, shoulder and ribcage width also need to be considered in order to determine a range of breast implant sizes that would achieve a proportionate improvement as well as reduce the risk of complications in the long run. While breast implants that are too large will suggest obvious surgical modification (fake look), implants that are too small will not impact a woman´s breast size and body contour and will not make the change worth.
SHAPES
Breast Implant Shapes
If you have decided on getting a breast augmentation done, breast implant shape is also a major factor to consider. There are two different shapes:
ROUND SHAPE: this was the first breast implant shape introduced in the market and it´s still the most common one. Round breast implants will give your breasts a more fulness appearance at the top – great option for women looking for a more pronounced cleavage or for women performing a breast lift surgery and looking for a very perky breast look. Round shape implants come in different types of projection, ranging from low to high.
TEARDROP SHAPE: teardrop shape implants will give your breasts a more natural look. In this shape, the bottom is fuller than the top but that does not mean you will not have a cleavage, it simply means that fulness in more concentrated at the bottom.

Breast Implant Placement
After the incisions have been made, breast implants will be placed in the previously chosen position. There are three different types of breast implant placement and again, there is not right or wrong option – all of them are safe and reliable and according to your body type, implant size and chest characteristics, Dr. Zia will recommend the best implant placement approach for your particular case:
SUBGLANDULAR (OVER THE MUSCLE):
the breast implant is placed between the breast tissue and the muscle. This technique is considered to be less invasive than the submuscular technique, recovery may be quicker and also more comfortable.
SUBMUSCULAR (BEHIND THE MUSCLE):
breast implants are placed below the pectoral muscle. This approach usually provides more natural results specially for patients that are very thin or have very little breast tissue – natural body tissues will lay over the implant. Submuscular placement also provides better implant support and reduces risk of capsular contracture.
DUAL PLANE:
this is the most advanced breast implant placement technique – a pocket is created under the pectoral muscle the muscle off the chest wall creating a space
for the implant. A two-plane dissection is left – 2/3 of the implant is under the muscle, while the lower part of the implant is in the sub-glandular plane. This
technique offers a very realistic look and feel together with great muscular support and fulness.
RECOVERY PROCESS
Breast Augmentation Recovery and Downtime
Here’s what you need to know about breast augmentation recovery process, how you will feel, what to expect and how to care for your new breasts. Each patient is different, and recovery may be different on each patient as well.
IMMEDIATELY AFTER SURGERY:
after you wake up from general anesthesia you may feel sleepy and tired for some time. You will spend one night at the clinic and you can go home the day after with a family member or friend – you cannot drive so make the necessary arrangements.
FIRST 3 DAYS:
the early days after your surgery are the most uncomfortable and you may experience some discomfort, pain and pressure on your chest area. To help you feel more comfortable during your recovery take medication as per the doctor´s prescription. Some patients will need rest during this period, others will feel well enough for easy activities such as going for a walk and cooking simple dishes at home. Lymphatic drainage massages may be required at this point to reduce edema and speed recovery.
AFTER 1 WEEK:
after the first week you will be able to resume many of your daily activities – driving, easy home cleaning, independent personal care, simple chores etc. From
the first week the implants start settling into place so take it easy and do not perform strenuous activities specially the ones that affect arms and chest.
AFTER 2 WEEKS:
you will be able to go back to work and to the gym (start with light exercises. Heavy exercises can only be done after 4 weeks). You can also go to the beach if you
are healing as expected (avoid direct sun exposure on the scar area).
AFTER 4 WEEKS:
after one month you are totally clear and is the time to start living your “new life”. You can use your new bras including underwire option and intimate breast sexual
related activities are allowed.
STEP BY STEP
Breast Augmentation
Step 1: Markings
Prior to surgery, patient is marked by the plastic surgeon in a standing position – this is necessary to achieve a symmetrical result.
STEP 2: Anesthesia
General anesthesia is administrated, and flexible tube is inserted to control breathing function.
STEP 3: Surgical site preparation
Surgical skin preparation and blue wraps placement.
STEP 4: Incisions

STEP 5: Sizers
Before inserting the breast implants a sizer is placed to check the result. A sizer is a medical device that it looks exactly as a breast implant – it comes in different shapes and sizes – it helps plastic surgeons checking results.
STEP 6: Incision and pocket creation
The incision is made and then a pocket where the implants will be placed is created (under the muscle, over the muscle or dual plane).
STEP 7: Implant disinfection and placement
Breast implants are irrigated in antibiotics to avoid infection and re inserted in the breast pocket.
STEP 8: Closing incisions
Incisions are closed with proline or nylon sutures or with dissolvible stitches.
STEP 9: Waking up patient
Patient is woken up by the anesthesiologist.
STEP 10: Surgical bra
Before taking the patient to the recovery room, the surgical bra and strap is worn.

Will my nipple sensation change?

Will breast implants feel natural to the touch?

During the first weeks breast will be swollen and will feel harder but with time it will become softer and more natural to touch.
Will breast augmentation work for me if my breasts are sagging?
Women with sagging breasts can also perform breast augmentation but a breast lift is also required. Without a breast lift to remove excess skin, placement of the implant will not correct the sagging.
What is the effect of smoking on breast augmentation?
Nicotine causes tiny blood vessels to clamp down and healing wounds will not get enough blood flow. If you smoke, you will be at higher risk of wound healing problems and infections. We recommend our patients to be nicotine-free for 4 weeks before surgery and for the necessary time after surgery until healing process has is complete.
Is there a relation between breast cancer and breast augmentation?
Breast cancer appears on women with or without breast implants and there is no evidence that breast implants cause breast cancer. If you have undergone breast augmentation or are at a higher risk of breast cancer you must perform breast cancer screening routine.
Is there a risk of breast implants interfering with cancer screening?
Interference with cancer screening is very rare. However, risk of implant interference is reduced when breast implants are placed deep to the pectoral muscle.
Which are the possible complications of breast augmentation surgery?
Breast augmentation procedure is very safe and most of our breast augmentation patients are happy with the results and have not gone through complications. However, just as in any other type of surgery, there are risks and complications involved. Possible breast augmentation complications include hematoma, infection, changes in nipple sensitivity, capsular contracture, rippling and implant rupture.
